Hit and run???

Bumper scratched, fog light shattered, and whoever that a$$hole was who hit my car in the parking lot didn't leave a note. Given the scratch is black and it's location, I am guessing it was someone in that big black truck parked facing me....Lucky it was "just" the fog light that shattered and not regular light and that there wasn't more damage overall. 

Yes my car looks like crap already but that's NOT an excuse for a hit and run. What's next, should I expect to find my car with the bumper on the ground or no doors just because someone felt like it, or perhaps no car at all???? Siiiiigh…

COVERGIRL - Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Liquid Foundation

The bottle is super cute with the white and brown swirls, it got me all excited...it actually looks yummy haha. The scent is not major with this makeup which is quite nice. 

You have to be careful with how much you squeeze the dispenser though, it tends to give a lot of product in just one squeeze. I also found that you have to be super careful about the amount of the product you actually put on your face - to get a nice flawless look you seriously have to nail it - do just a tiny bit more and you'll end up with cakey horrible looking face. 

The first time I tried I squeezed the dispenser normally and ended up with more than a pea-size amount. I put it on my face and boy oh boy it was absolutely nasty! I did like the texture and ease of applying though so I cleaned my face and started over. I used about a pea-size amount for the next attempt, still looked horrible. Third attempt I did a bit less than pea size amount and voila - I got an even skintone, and my skin looks glowing! After about an hour my skin feels a bit irritated so I am worried I might have a slight allergic reaction which would make me really sad - it happens to me once in a blue moon even with the most expensive product (and the worst reaction I ever had was to a very expensive hypoallergenic product marketed for even the most sensitive skin....while some super cheap drugstore products work perfectly for me) so don't let this comment deter you from trying for yourself.


The makeup, once you figure out the right amount to use, looks really good. And it's so easy to apply evenly, one of the easiest I tried so far.

Thirty-One

So, a friend of mine had a fundraiser for her kid's preschool that involved Thirty-One products. Eventually I bought their famous All About Benjamins wallet and was pretty happy with it :)

Few months later hosted my own online party. Tried to tell my rep that I don't really have a huge circle of friends and those who are in my circle are not very likely to buy....I don't think she fully believed me! Well, the day of the party came and I invited 34 of my Facebook friends - the suggestion is between 30-50, and I simply don't have 50 to invite. Out of the 34, a few left the online party right away, finally a couple confirmed. A little discouraging you might say...but I did warn my rep ahead.

I did order a few items and a those few who confirmed made an order as well, so yay, I had the smallest qualifying party - yay for me!!!

I ended up getting a fold out bin that I am using as a laundry bin. I've been searching for a laundry bin for a while, and Thirty-One has a design I liked. I have to admit though,,,,,for over $60 the bin is still growing on me, I was slightly disappointed at the quality. Not it's badly made....but it just doesn't seem like an item I would ever spend $60 on if I saw it in a store.

I am also slightly disappointed in the insulated cross-body bag. For $25, I find the bag rather thin....Walmart has insulated bags for less and they are thicker - hubby has one so I know it keeps things cool quite long. I suspect with my Thirty-One insulated bag I will have to use an ice pack no matter what - which I am not keen on, I already haul quite a bit of weight to work on a daily basis and yes the ice pack is not super heavy, but every gram counts...

As a hostess of the party, I was able to get another All About Benjamins wallet heavily discounted - pretty happy about this purchase :)

All in all, the products are not bad...they just aren't worth the price to me. Plus I have to admit am not keen on the whole MLM scheme. I am happy to shop locally and I am happy to help local stay at home Moms with their income, but MLM usually doesn't give the income people dream about.

Yet another Canada Post rant...

Some days I seriously wonder how is Canada Post still in business.

So....I had a package coming. It was supposed to be here beginning of last week....and it was not. We kept on checking the mailbox, and no delivery attempt notice there either. Weird. Well...thank goodness I had a tracking number to look the package up.
Apparently they tried to deliver it and left a notice in my mailbox. Ummmm NO.
I CHECKED THE MAILBOX EVERY DAY. No notice what so ever.
This morning the tracking on the website said final notice was left.
Yeah....it was not.

Anyways, off to the post office I went. The package was thankfully still there....and note on the side of the package was said wrong address.

The post office clerk checked the mailing label and then checked the notice card. Yeah, my address was wrong on the card. It was absolutely CORRECT on the package. So it was someone at the post office that screwed up. I get it, we are all human, but at least twice a month I get mail that belongs to someone else, and nobody ever seem to care when I let them know. And nobody really cared to check the notice card against the actual mailing address on the package.

So frustrating. I do have a huge appreciation that it's not an easy job...but at the same time, most of us are expected to do a good job, or there are consequences. It just doesn't feel like that's ever the case of Canada Post...not only they don't ever seem to take responsibility, but they keep operating poorly and not much seems to be done about it.....

Western Family Organic Yogurt

Love love love this yogurt. I quite like it's not 0% fat crap like a lot of stuff on the market, this is actually done with whole milk. You get 1.57kg for around $10 which is reasonable for organic yogurt. I chose the plain variety, and it tastes delicious. My little ones enjoy it too. For a special treat I add a few fresh fruit or a bit of home made jam/marmalade.

Definitely recommend this one. I am a fan of Western Family products overall, and this one doesn't disappoint.

Innovitehealth Adult daily probiotics

These probiotics are super easy to use and you can tell the difference after only few days of use.  I feel like my gut is finally improving, I used to feel kinda yucky at least a few days a week and since I started taking these I get that feeling less and less. I found this mask thicker than the conditioner - that's definitely something I'd expect from a mask! I have to say though just like the other products of this line, I found the scent of this unbearable. Instant migraine for me. I love love love roses but this particular scent somehow doesn't sit well with me.
I am grateful I got to try it, but this particular product is not one I'd buy.

I might try one of the other scents though!

AVEENO ULTRA-CALMING DAILY MOISTURIZER WITH SPF 30

I really wanted to love this moisturizer as much as I love all other Aveeno products that I've used to far. A moisturizer for sensitive skin and with SPF sounded perfect!

Unfortunately this one is probably my least favourite product from Aveeno so far. The moisturizer has a bit of a sticky feeling to it when I apply it and that's something I have a really hard time with. It's not irritating my skin, but it doesn't feel as nice and smooth as some of the other moisturizers from Aveeno that I have used....and the stickiness is just annoying. I do see it reduces redness but I just cannot get over the not-so-nice-feel on the skin when applying.

Aveeno Ultra Calming Hydrating Gel Cleanser

This is a nice foaming cleansing gel. I am a fan of Aveeno products and this one did not disappoint either. I love that there is no scent - it definitely won't irritate you if you have scent sensitivities. It foams up nicely and it leaves skin feeling quite nice. I get eczema here and there and this gel doesn't worsen it at all.

Definitely recommend.

I was super excited to try this shampoo but man oh man, I cannot stomach the scent. The shampoo itself foams nicely and does leave hair feeling clean, but the scent is sickening. I normally love roses but for some reason this one gives me an instant migraine. And it's one of those scents that linger.

I really wanted to love this but unfortunately I don't.


I won't be able to speak about lasting effects as I won't be able to continue using this.

Ok so this conditioner is not bad. I can't handle the scent of the shampoo from this line, however the conditioner doesn't have as strong of a scent as the shampoo. It still has the rose smell that I have such a hard time with in this line (and normally I love roses!) but not as sickening as the shampoo or the body wash. It's thick and creamy, easy to apply and easy to wash out. With that being said, my hair did not look smooth after I used this system, with other systems I feel like my hair is slick, but with this one I have a ton of flyaways and overall my hair just doesn't look as healthy as I hoped for.
Unfortunately due to the scent I won't be able to use this system long term so cannot comment on long term effects.

I was soooo excited to try this body wash, I had really high hopes I'd find a new favourite.

The body wash comes in a bottle with a pump which is awesome. The body wash itself works nicely, it has creamy rich texture and makes nice foam....but I cannot stand the smell. Normally I love the scent of roses but this one gave me an instant migraine. And on top of it it lingers....which would be amazing if I loved the scent, but now I am trying to figure out how to get it off my body.

Too bad. I will very likely try one of the other scents in the future, but this one is a NO for me.

Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Leave-On Mask

This is a nice product from Aveeno. It goes on super easily and smoothly. I use it overnight, and as it is a leave-on, you don't need to wash it off. In all honesty I am not quite sure why they call it a mask, to me it's pretty much a moisturizer, I suppose I need to look up some definitions of a facial mask to better understand.
This product comes in a container with a pump so you just pump out as much as you need for your face and apply it, and the product itself stays sanitary because you don't stick your fingers inside the container.
It has a very mild scent that doesn't bother me at all which is always nice.
My skin feels smooth and more radiant after just a few days of using this product. It's not as strong as my usual anti-aging product but it's at a very reasonable price so I can see myself purchasing it again.

"My Driving Discount" app

This app is absolutely HORRIBLE. It's sooooooooooooooooooo bad just thinking about it makes my blood boil.

So let me tell you more about it.

The app is meant to be used for a minimum of 180 days and 1,000kms (can be increased by the insurance company at any point).  The app has a dashboard where you can see your completed trips, and you can either check that yes, you were the driver, or no, you did not drive the car but you were a passenger in a car or use another means of transportation. If you don't manually indicate this, the app automatically assumes you were the driver every single time and after 7 days, it goes on your record as such. Pretty simple.

Let's start with some of the basic technical stuff - from a user point of view - I ain't digging into the quality of the coding.

- The app randomly crashes. It crashes to a point when it won't record anything and you have to reinstall it. The catch? If you don't notice it's not recording, after 30 days you get an email from an insurance company saying either you can remove the app altogether and forfeit the initial 10% discount they give for you trying; or if you want to keep using it, they add another 3 months onto the 180 days assessment period. Not a fair trade, 90 days extra for 30 days that the app did not work - it's not your fault the app is garbage, you uploaded it, logged into it, the rest should have been taken care of, right? .......
- Sometimes only a portion of the trip is recorded. The Q&A says this might happen if you are in an area where you get bad/intermittent cell signal. Ok, that's fair, I'll pretend I believe I get bad signal in an area where I drive daily and 90% of the time the app records without any issues...
- The app uses absolutely insane amounts of battery. I don't have the newest phone and often after a 10km trip half of my battery is gone.


The idea behind this app is great. It tracks your driving, and it's supposed to reward good driving habits, and point out bad driving habits.

Except...it's doing the exact opposite.

You start with a potential 25% discount.
The app tracks your driving using GPS. It does not, however, look at the GPS to check whether you are driving legal speed, whether you in fact stop where you are supposed to stop, et cetera. It just records a trip, and it measures your speed, and it records everything in terms of accelerating and braking. If you break or accelerate more than 12kmh in one second, you get an "event" - either rapid acceleration, or hard braking. You also get nailed for driving during the night.
An "event" is basically explained as bad driving and your percentage of potential discount goes down. And it goes down REALLY quickly - you can loose 10% in one event, while getting the number to climb back up by 1% can take several hundreds of kilometers.

Let me give you some examples why this is bad:

1. Rapid acceleration
I live in Alberta, and Alberta roads have not been exactly designed by geniuses. Meaning, for example, ramps onto highways are awfully short, more often than not ending with a Yield sign instead of merge. So....to drive according to the rules, you are expected to stop if there is oncoming traffic, and you have room to get into a highway lane, you are forced to accelerate rather quickly, in order to not jeopardize the trafic that's already on the highway. The roads are busy, waiting for an opening large enough for you to accelerate without stepping on the gas would sometimes mean waiting for hours....So when you are using this app, you have two choices - you accelerate in a way that isn't faster than 12kmh per second, and risk that someone will rear-end you, or you accelerate quickly to keep the traffic slow steady and safe, and you get an event.


2. Hard breaking
If someone cuts you off  and you step on the breaks because you don't want to rear end them, you get an "event".
Or, if an animal jumps in front of your car which is not that uncommon un rural Alberta, again you get an event. If you run the animal over and keep driving, it's like nothing ever happened. Just the thought gives me goose bumps, because it makes me think of another possible scenario and it freaks me out.....here we go...
If a child chases after a ball when you are passing by and you jump on the breaks to avoid hitting that child....you get an event. See where I am going with this? Just these thoughts are insanely scary....
....because..... 
.....if you do whatever is in your power to avoid any type of a collision....you are apparently a bad driver....

In the Q&A they say they of course want you to break hard when needed....but the app results suggests otherwise. 

3. Night time driving

Forget about being rewarded to be a designated driver for family or friends. If you drive between midnight and 4am, you automatically loose percentage. I get that perhaps those hours are the most likely hours for accidents, but again, nailing you for being responsible seems really dumb if you ask me. 

Are you a late evening/night shift worker? You're screwed. Don't even bother trying this app. 

All in all, this app is simply BAD.

I don't think I am an amazing driver. I consider myself pretty average.

And I am not one of those people who complain about this app because they didn't get any discount.  I am at 3,000kms and I am still hovering between 17%-18% discount, which, all things considered, is not bad.

I just really think this app absolutely fails to do what it's meant to do - promote and reward good driving.  And it doesn't even work properly waaay too often and it's hard on the battery. 

The only one that wins with this app is the insurance company - they will be able to keep your premiums just as high as before....

The overall rating in the android and apple app stores is 1.5 stars out of five. Yes, there are many, many, many good reasons why it's low. In my humble opinion, even 1 full star is too high for this app.

Dealing with an insurance company....

Warning...this is a rant....

Insurance companies......SIIIGH.

So, we got this garbage app installed on the phone to track our driving habits which should result in a discount after 180 days and a minimum of 1,000kms logged. The app uses ridiculous amounts of battery and has so many bugs you need to reinstall it every few weeks. Basically one of those that you cannot wait to get rid of because it's complete crap. Anyways, I've been using it for little over 6 months now and logged in 3K kms....so in theory I should be done now.

I messaged the insurance, clearly stating I have been using the app for more than 6 months and now I am wondering if I can remove it since I have met their terms and it's killing the battery on my phone.

Response:

"In order for you to get the discount on renewal you have to use the app for 180 days and log at least 1,000 km, so if you haven’t been using it, then you can delete the app from your phone, since it’s not benefitting you anyway."

Plus they added I can call the app provider if I have troubles with it.

Realizing the ridiculous premiums we are paying for insurance partially go to people who don't even bother reading client emails before responding just makes me really sad and really annoyed at the same time.

I will be posting a full review on the app soon as well. Let's say there is a reason it has about a star and a half in the app store....

Numeris???

So.....the weird phonecalls never end. I guess that's the story of 21st century isn't it?

Over the past week I got several calls from 403-351-3157. Eventually the name Numeris also appeared. I googled it...it seems to be a company doing surveys about TV and radio usage in Canada. They never left a message. And always called after 7pm, right around the time when I am putting my kids to bed.
I did pick up once and the call got disconnected.
They called again the following evening, and I picked up again, and this time there was someone on the other end.
They introduced themselves, said they are doing a survey about TV and radio usage, and proceeded to ask the questions. Never did they mention what the data is for....
They started by asking whether it was safe for me to talk. I can absolutely appreciate that. With that being said, starting with a question whether I was in fact willing to participate in this survey first would have been even better! Assuming just because I picked up I was willing might not be the best approach...just sayin'. They were lucky I was willing, just to see what this would be all about.

Ok....so the whole questionnaire took about ten minutes. I had no issues answering most of those questions, despite thinking that it's nobody's business how many TVs are in my house. They also asked how many cellphones and whether we have a landline.

At the end, the person said they might follow up with some people with an additional questionnaire. Again...not a huge deal...until he started asking for my name and my mailing address. Ummm nope. That ain't gonna happen. He explained the information gathered is confidential, used only for the purpose of the survey, blah blah blah. That might absolutely be true - but there is also a great chance it is not. There are so many scammers able to reroute the numbers they are calling from to appear as legit while they are not. Sorry Numeris, this was an unsolicited call, and I was nice enough to pick up and not hang up....don't expect me to share my personal information with you. The person calling was not very impressed with me refusing to give him my address....well, chances are my survey responses ended up being unusable without it....however.... had he mentioned at the beginning he'd have to ask personal details, I could have saved him some time.
Let's face it...it's 21st century....if you want to follow up with another survey in writing, send me an email. If it was in fact a legit call....Sorry Numeris. I will NOT share my personal details over the phone in an unsolicited phonecall.

Burts Bees 100 Percent Natural Eye Shadow Palette with 3 Shades, Dusky Woods, 0.12 Oz, 3.4g

I do like this palette. I typically don't use a ton of makeup, first because my skin is super sensitive and second I simply don't know about how to put on make up properly. I can handle a foundation, mascara, may be a little bit of an eyeliner and that's it.

When it comes to eye shadows, I wish I knew how to do a smoky eye and such but I don't. So I go for more natural look when I decide to do full makeup. This trio is great for "nude" look.
I'm naturally very pale so I usually don't go for too dark colors because they make me look like a chubby zombie on the run. No thanks.
The two lighter colors are awesome - I don't have to use a ton to feel like there is a positive effect on my looks!
I will most likely run out of the lightest and medium color before I truly dive into the dark one - it's just too dark for me. But the two lighter colors are awesome.

Scam from 1-855-232-7737

Today I got a voicemail from this number - 855-232-7737. Straight voicemail, no missed call. I am in an area where signal drops here and there, so I figured that might have happened, so I listened to the message. A male with a very strong Indian accent introduced himself as officer James Morrison. The beginning of the message did not record so I assume it was a recording.  I've just heard something about the matter being urgent, then the name, and at the end he was just telling me to call back and not to try disregard the call or else it can end up badly.

So I am guessing it's the most recent scam where people pretend to be CRA....

I really, really, really do NOT like threats.

And..... I feel like calling them back and blasting "Riders in the storm" into the phone for this James Morrison....

Schwarzkopf root retoucher

This root retoucher is an absolute life saver. I have started going grey when I was 21. Now a couple years shy of 40, I have a ton of greys...and with two little kids, I'd rather spend money on other stuff than touchups at a hair salon. I tried to use the root color kits, but they just don't work all that well for me. This spray, on the other hand, is awesome! I don't feel like my hair is getting damaged, and I can drag real color touchups a lot longer than before. I find that the coverage is not 100% with the spray, but it does take the edge off enough that the top of my hair doesn't look like a skunk's back with the white stripe in the middle.

Pros:
+ washable (one wash)
+ easy to apply with a precision spray bottle
+ blends nicely with my coloured hair
+ doesn't damage hair (at least I can't really feel any damage, unlike with some actual at-home colour kits)

Cons:
- I'd say it offers about 80% coverage
- I wish the can was a bit cheaper (but it's not terrible so will be buying again!)
- colors the scalp a bit too
- has the hair color smell
All in all, this is a great product, and I will buy it as soon as I run out of my first can of it.

Mia Adora Nouri-Lash mascara

If you are looking for a nice mascara that's good in adding length and volume, Mia Adora's Nouri-Lash might just be The One for you! I've been using it for several days now, and I love it. It really does a great job in lengthening, and it doesn't clump. 
I have pretty sensitive eyes and some mascaras give me a migraine, this one - knock on wood- isn't one of them.

Amazon customer service

Ok, so a few days ago I was not very happy with large subscription box coming via Canada Post. This time, I would like to say how much I appreciate Amazon's policies and customer service when it comes to other issues with a parcel.

Another part of my monthly Amazon subscription was coming to me yesterday via another provider. I was home, no doorbell, no knocking on the doors, yet I have received a notification that my parcel has been delivered. I run to the doors...and NOTHING.

So I contacted Amazon's customer service. The rep asked me to wait 24hrs as sometimes the parcel is logged as delivered when it's not. I know this is the case with Canada Post, it never happened to me with the other providers, but I obliged and waited another day. Still nothing, so I contacted Amazon again. This time the customer service agent investigated for a few minutes, and then responded then in this case they consider the parcel lost in transit, and I can either get a replacement, or a full refund. All the items were items that I do need, so I opted for a replacement.

The whole process took a few minutes and it was resolved. I should have most of the items on Saturday, and a couple on Tuesday. Yes, I would have preferred to have the items already, but I do appreciate that I wasn't told "too bad so sad, someone must have stolen it"

So...when it comes to lost packages, kudos to Amazon. This is such a huge peace of mind to know that if there is this kind of an issue, they act on it the best possible way.

Claritin

Claritin is a classic in my household. Hubby is severely allergic to animals and some foods, I get the odd allergy to a specific cat/dog and cosmetics, and my brother is severely allergic to pollen, hay, grass, animals, you name it.

I am super happy that in Canada we can get allergy meds without a prescription - I lived in Europe for a number of years and where I lived, Claritin was only available with a prescription. Not having to go through all the hoops of the medical system makes managing allergy symptoms so much easier!

These pills are non drowsy and you can feel them working within half an hour to an hour depending how bad your symptoms are. They are pretty small and easy to swallow.

Will continue to buy for sure! :)

Amazon subscription

As much as I love Amazon, I will have to cancel my subscription for diapers. I've been happily using the subscription for well over a year, up until now....They sent past two orders via Canada Post - and Canada Post doesn't deliver anything bigger than an envelope in my area. And hauling an infant, a toddler, and a jumbo box of diapers out of a tiny post office is just not an option. I contacted customer service both times and the answer was they cannot choose which carrier is used for an order....

It was incredibly helpful to get the box right to my address.... it's very unfortunate that this luxury is now over.
