Quebec education saga continues

So, not even a full week after after I requested some detailed information from the Ministry of Education in regards to discrimination and violation of Human Rights (to which the only answer was "we are special"....se my previous post), I get a registered letter IN ENGLISH demanding to provide a proof that my children are in fact being educated OR ELSE.....as they are not enrolled in the neighborhood French school (a crappy school where one my kids' friend was almost kidnapped in grade 3 by a few high school boys and the school did NOTHING about it, including notifying the parents of the child, who was smart enough to run and tell all about the situation to their teacher within moments of this happening).

The Ministry did not give one f%ck for the last year and a half after we pulled the kids out (we filled out all appropriate paperwork for that)....but I dared to ask a few questions a few days ago....and here we are.

Now obviously it's not a big deal to provide a proof, I have that already. It's the whole approach that's wrong beyond comprehension. All of a sudden someone cares? Give me a break, this is retaliation for addressing that the province should respect the Charter of Human Rights and not discriminate...

The letter also states I can provide a proof by phone. So I call the number....introduce myself in English, hear "ummmm"....the lady asks me for something that I am unable to catch - I just hear "YOUR" and then gibberish - no idea if it was an English word, French word??? ...I ask if she needs my name....No, your "dfghkfdjhg" (again can't make up the word). So ask again, sorry my what? Apologies, I can't hear you clearly, my what? (still very polite...). Now have you ever experienced someone trying to pretend they can't hear you? That's what came next. Absolutely clear - Hello. So I say hello back. A couple of seconds silence...another clear "hello"....I again respond, and she hungs up. I call right back, the phone rings and rings, until I get to the voicemail. So she's clearly not on the line with someone else, she is avoiding my call.

Pathetic.

I left a voicemail with my name and phone number, stating I am confirming as requested my children go to school and I trust this is it, as there were no further instructions in the threatening letter, no kids' names, no case file, no nothing.

We clearly can't get out of this totalitarian, completely backwards, small minded, retaliatory/threat-focused province fast enough....

Loi 101 - Law 101 in Quebec

This will probably be an unpopular opinion.

First off, let me be clear—I have absolutely no desire for Canada to become the 51st state. Never ever! However, if that were ever to happen, Quebec would truly benefit on a couple of fronts. Why? Lower taxes and the end of the Loi 101 nonsense.

I understand that Loi 101 wouldn’t be scrapped outright on the basis of being discriminatory—though it absolutely is—but the practical outcome would still be the same: an end to language-based restrictions and more freedom of choice. People who recognize that being bilingual or multilingual is an asset, not a threat, would finally have more options.

It’s disheartening that Canada’s federal government not only allows but actively supports such blatant discrimination. Quebec has fostered a culture of fear, stagnation, and small thinking—all in the name of "protecting the language," using flawed statistics that anyone with basic knowledge of data analysis can see right through.

Look at the businesses that have left. Look at the educated, talented individuals who have already left or are planning their exit. Quebec is losing on every front, and the government seems indifferent.

This province is breathtakingly beautiful and has so much potential, yet those in power seem trapped in a narrow, insular mindset. If they had real-world experience outside of Quebec, they might see how counterproductive these policies are.

But when even a representative from the Ministry of Education justifies it all with a dismissive laugh and a "we are special" explanation, what hope is there, really?
